The Whitesand River is a right tributary of the Assiniboine River in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan .

It flows for a length of 163 km from its headwaters in the Beaver Hills northwest of Yorkton in an easterly direction until it flows into the Assiniboine River at Kamsack , whose largest tributary in Saskatchewan it is. The river is frozen over in the winter months and can then be navigated by vehicles. It reaches the greatest discharge in April and May during the snowmelt with up to 87 m³ / s, 35 times the long-term average.

The Whitesand River flows through Foam Lake , the Canora Weir reservoir and the Theodore Reservoir, among others . Numerous fish live in rivers and lakes, e. B. pike , glass perch , river perch , burbot , stone perch , moon-eye and various types of sucker carp .
