Wiedenfelder Höhe in the Rhenish lignite district |
The Wiedenfelder Höhe is a recultivated high tip from the overburden of the overburden above the lignite in the district town of Bergheim , North Rhine-Westphalia . It extends between Niederaussem and Paffendorf , between the former opencast mines Fortuna-Garsdorf and Bergheim . The slopes are wooded, and there are several farms on the plateau that farm there.
Dimensions
The Wiedenfelder Höhe is up to 126.4 meters above sea level , its area is approx. 4 × 4 kilometers.
History and naming
The Wiedenfelder Höhe was built in the 1970s and 1980s on the site of the Fortuna-Garsdorf opencast mine . The Wiedenfelder Höhe owes its name to the old town of Wiedenfeld , which fell victim to this opencast mine and was located on the western edge of today's Wiedenfelder Höhe.
Holtrop Castle was roughly where the farms are today .
layout
On the plateau, some relocated wayside crosses were put up again, reminding of the villages and farms that were lost in the Garsdorf opencast mine.
In the northern area there are further recultivation areas . In Bedburg is the artificial Peringsmaar . North of Paffendorf, the glider club LSC Erftland eV operates the Bergheim glider airfield . The recultivation area was included in the Energy Road as an example .
colonization
The farms located there are so-called resettlers farms of farmers who had to leave their traditional farms and fields due to lignite mining. Some of the farms that had been owned by the family for centuries had to be abandoned.
Wind farm
In 2017, Innogy and BMR energy built a wind farm with four Vestas V117 turbines with a nominal output of 3.3 MW each on the Wiedenfelder Höhe . The systems have a hub height of 116.5 m and a total height of 175 m. Construction started in April and the systems went into operation in September.
