Vienna Journalist Prize

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Vienna Journalist Prize of the City of Vienna was awarded in 2011 on the initiative of Karin Strobl, then chairwoman of the FrauenNetzwerk Medien and the Vice Mayor of Vienna Renate Brauner . It is endowed with 5,000 euros, donated by Wien Holding .

The award was established as a reaction to the practice of awarding journalism awards in Austria , with which almost exclusively men were honored. It recognizes outstanding achievements by Austrian journalists and should be seen as a symbol of equality and the advancement of women. It is under the patronage of Renate Brauner, Maria Vassilakou and City Councilor Sandra Frauenberger and is awarded annually under the motto Women in front of the curtain as part of a ceremony in the Vienna City Hall . The candidates are nominated by the women's media network. The board of directors of the network votes on the award. The prize is awarded throughout Austria. In addition to the cash prize, the winner will receive a statue of the artist Dejana Kabiljo , sponsored by the Vienna Business Agency .

The Vienna Journalist Prize is the successor to the Spitz Feder , which was awarded by the Vienna Greens before the red-green coalition was established in the City Hall .
