The Vienna Residence Orchestra is a classical orchestra based in Vienna ( Austria ) that was founded in 1990 by the pianist and conductor Paul Moser and his wife Sylvia Moser.

The orchestra plays works of the Viennese classic in different sizes. The focus is on compositions by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and the Strauss family as well as works from the classic Viennese operetta . Renowned opera chants and dancers from the ballet of the Vienna State Opera and Volksoper perform as soloists .

The numerous series of events are held in Vienna's most famous palaces and concert halls and attract around 150,000 concert visitors each year.

Venues

The daily concert series of the Vienna Residence Orchestra takes place in the main location, the historical Palais Auersperg in Vienna.

The Vienna Residence Orchestra was founded in 1990 by the pianist and conductor Paul Moser and his wife Sylvia Moser in order to authentically interpret the works of the Viennese Classic , such as Mozart , Haydn and Beethoven . Rudolf Chametowitsch Nurejew became the orchestra's first guest conductor in 1992. Sylvia Moser as organizer and Robert Lehrbaumer as artistic director organized "New Classix" - an innovative concert initiative in Vienna - Sunday matinee concerts in the Palais Auersperg and in the Palais Liechtenstein. In 2004 Zoltan Janikovic took over the artistic direction of the orchestra after the early death of Paul Moser.

In 2006 Christian Pollack took over the musical direction of the Vienna Residence Orchestra. He also invited guest conductors such as Gerhard Lagrange, Daniel Hoyem-Cavazza and Robert Lehrbaumer.

In 2017 Christian Pollack resigned and Giuseppe Montesano took over the artistic direction of the Vienna Residence Orchestra.

Guest performances

In the first few years after its foundation, the orchestra was a guest at well-known international festivals.

Lively touring included appearances in Paris, Berlin, Rome, Venice, Ravello, Deauville, Athens, the Budapest State Opera, Varese, Mexico, Brussels, Salzburg, and the Vienna Musikverein .

This was followed by concerts in Uruguay (1998), Mexico (1998), Brussels (1999), Thailand (2002), Spain (Canet de Mar, Rialp and Altafulla, 2007) and Italy (Imola, 2007).

Further stations were the “Austria Weeks” in Stockholm (1997), an appearance as part of the Venice Carnival (2001), at the “Italian Fashion & Cultural Event” in Dubai (2003), as well as appearances as part of the Emiglia Romagna Festival (2008 ), as well as at the “Festival de Música de la Vila de Llivia” and at the “Festival de Música de la Vila de Rialp” (2012).

The Vienna Residence Orchestra also organized individual concerts for small ensembles, such as B. a recital in Altafulla (2015), in which the longtime guest conductor Robert Lehrbaumer and the soloist Rita-Lucia Schneider presented an extremely atmospheric concert with music from Franz Liszt to Franz Lehar. In 2017, a chamber ensemble of five musicians from the Vienna Residence Orchestra and two ballet dancers followed an invitation to a concert in the Spanish “Llinars del Vallès” (2017).

There has been a long-term partnership with the conductor and pianist Robert Lehrbaumer, especially in the context of the annual Altenburg Music Academy and the Halbturn Castle Concerts in Altenburg Abbey .

Awards

  • 2009 - Concert in Munich Unterföhring: Under the baton of Gerhard Lagrange, the Vienna Residence Orchestra won the 2009 “Unterföhringer Mohr” cultural award.

At the subsequent concert in 2011, the culture award was presented to the Vienna Residence Orchestra. The culture award of the community Unterföhring has a special feature: The "Unterföhringer Mohr" is purely an audience award: the artist or ensemble with the most positive reviews is then chosen as the winner at the beginning of the year and invited to another guest performance in Unterföhring. The prize consists of a marble bust designed by Ismaning stone sculptor Margit Festl, as well as prize money. In 2010 the culture prize was awarded for the first time; it went to the Quadro Nuevo group for its performance in Unterföhring in 2008. The Vienna Residence Orchestra followed in 2011.
