Wieprz (German Weepers ) is a village in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship in northeastern Poland. The place belongs to Gmina Zalewo in Powiat Iławski .
geography
Wieprz is located in the moraine landscape of the Oberland , about 15 kilometers south of Zalewo. The area belongs to the Eylauer Seenplatte landscape protection park . The place is located directly on Jezioro Jeziorak ( Geserichsee ). It is connected by a dam with Wielki Bukowiec (the Bukowitzwerder ), an island in the Geserichsee.
history
Weepers was founded by the Teutonic Order as a Hakenzinsdorf .
In 1874 an administrative district of Weepers was established in the district of Mohrungen . It consisted of the rural communities Albrechtswalde , Kerpen, Schliewe, Skittlauken, Ulpitten and Weepers and the manor districts Gablauken, Kerpen, Pomehlen and Schliewe. In the early years, the mayor of Saalfeld took over the administration in a part-time position. In 1882 the district was dissolved again and merged with the district of Auer.
In 1928 the manor district of Pomehlen was incorporated into the rural community of Weepers. The inhabited islands of Bukowitzwerder and Lindenwerder in the Geserichsee also belonged to the rural community, while the water area of the Geserichsee had the status of its own manor district.
After incorporation into the Polish state, Weepers was renamed Wieprz and joined the newly formed Gmina Zalewo . The name Wieprz was already common in southern Poland as a place and water body name. Today the place is the seat of a Schulzenamt of Gmina Zalewo, to which Gubławki ( Gablauken ), Karpowo ( Kerpen ) and Pomielin ( Pomehlen ) belong.
