Wietstock is located a little southeast of the federal highway 109 . Anklam is about 20 kilometers northwest and Ueckermünde about 16 kilometers east. In the south Wietstock borders on the Lübkowsee , on the foothills of the Friedländer Große Wiese and in the northeast on the foothills of the Ueckermünder Heide . The Große Landgraben flows south of Wietstock .

history

Wietstock and the surrounding area were settled early on. To the northeast, a burial mound from the Bronze Age (1800 to 600 BC) and to the northwest an early German (from 1230) tower hill castle shows the beginnings of settlement.

The place was first mentioned in a document as "Wizoch" in 1236. Wietstock is a Slavic foundation, as the name ("Wizoch" = the high village) shows.

Wietstock used to belong to the so-called "Grafenwinkel" of the district of Anklam . The area was named because of the Counts of Schwerin , who also owned the manor in Wietstock.

The total area of the Wietstock estate comprised around 1000 hectares, including 183 hectares of forest. In 1936 the manor was in debt with 400,000 marks and had to be partially sold. After the sale, the estate was partially settled by the Pomeranian Landgesellschaft. A larger farming area with around 50 hectares was created, 26 medium-sized farming areas with 10 to 20 hectares and two workers' settlements with an area of five hectares. The remaining material was only 125 hectares in size.

Wietstock was a typical manor village with the dominant manor and the farm worker data line. After the estate was settled, the shape and structure of the village changed. The settlements were laid out as a large rectangle parallel to the old Katenzeile. The estate was preserved as a rest yard and is still recognizable today.

Charlottenhorst has belonged to Wietstock since May 16, 1950. It was built in 1812 by Count Heinrich von Schwerin as a Vorwerk . It originally consisted of a house and three outbuildings. After the Second World War and the subsequent land reform , Charlottenhorst was also relocated.

During the GDR era, an LPG property was built northeast of the village, which was converted and modernized after 1990.

Until December 31, 2010, Wietstock was an independent municipality with the district of Charlottenhorst in the Anklam-Land district in the Eastern Pomerania district . On January 1, 2011 the incorporation into Altwigshagen took place, which was connected with a change of the responsible office and the district.
