The Wild  Duck Cluster (also known as Messier  11 or NGC 6705 ) is a 5.8  mag bright open star cluster with an angular extent of 14 ′ in the constellation Schild .

It was discovered by Gottfried Kirch in 1681 and added to his list by Charles Messier in 1764 . It is one of the most compact of the open star clusters and can be found with binoculars on the northern edge of a large star cloud in the Milky Way .
