Wilhelm Büchting
Wilhelm Büchting (born June 27, 1864 in Nordhausen ; † July 10, 1923 in Eilenburg ) was a German Protestant theologian and regional historian.
Life
He was the son of a publisher and bookseller. Due to an illness, Büchting initially received private lessons; later he attended high school in his hometown. At the age of 11 he became an orphan. Nevertheless, he was able to study theology, philosophy and history in Halle and temporarily in Berlin . In 1890 he passed the 1st theological exam in Halle and in 1892 the 2nd exam in Magdeburg . At that time he was already working as an assistant preacher in Ermsleben . In 1892 he was appointed vicar in Eilenburg, where he was able to take up the position of deacon the following year. This made it possible for Büchting to marry Paula Becker from Nordhausen in the same year. In 1895 he was able to take over the position of 2nd clergyman at the Eilenburg Church of St. Nikolai ; In 1903 he took over the first pastor's position at the Church of St. Marien in Eilenburg. This led him in the same year with a theme about Martin Rinckart Dr. phil. to do a PhD. In 1906 Büchting was elected senior pastor of St. Nikolai and in the following year superintendent of the Ephorie Eilenburg. In addition, from 1904 to 1912 he worked as a district school inspector.
Büchting wrote several books on regional history. In addition, he published smaller contributions with ethnographic and historical content in the Eilenburger Neuesten Nachrichten and the Protestant community newspaper Heimatkirche . Büchting was the founder of the Eilenburg antiquity museum, which still exists today as a city museum . For his services he was awarded the Prussian Eagle Order (4th class).
