Wilhelm Hermann Friedrich Buddenberg (born July 16, 1890 in Trier , † February 2, 1967 in Neuss ) was a German painter who is particularly known as an animal and hunting painter .

Live and act

Wilhelm Buddenberg attended elementary school and then the Kaiser-Wilhelm-Gymnasium , where he passed the Abitur in 1911 . He then studied four semesters Architecture at the Technical University of Berlin . But since he was more interested in painting, he switched to the Berlin-Charlottenburg Art Academy and studied with Friedrich Kallmorgen and Paul Prozess . In the first year of his studies he received an academy award with a study trip to Norway, in particular to observe moose . He finished his studies after six semesters with distinction.

From 1914 he served in the military, initially with the 7th Rhenish Infantry Regiment No. 69 in Trier. As a sergeant he went to World War I and was promoted to officer. He received the Iron Cross II and I Class and the Wound Badge . After the First World War he went on study trips to several European countries and to Germany. He married and lived with his wife in Trier. From there he went hunting, especially in the Eifel and Hunsrück, and captured his experiences in pictures. Since it was founded in 1930, he was a member of the “Association of Fine Artists and Art Friends in the Trier District”.

After the Second World War he settled in Neuss . In the Rhine valley he conducted landscape studies, observed animals and painted mainly rabbits , pheasants and ducks . In 1954 he took part in the hunting exhibition in Düsseldorf, his last participation in an exhibition.

He also worked for the magazines Wild und Hund and Deutsche Jägerzeitung .

Several of his pictures are in the Rijksmuseum Twenthe in Enschede, Netherlands, in the German Hunting and Fishing Museum in Munich and in the Wine Museum in Trier.
