Wilhelm Heinrich Schlesinger

Wilhelm Heinrich Schlesinger (also Henri-Guillaume Schlesinger, born August 6, 1814 in Frankfurt am Main , † February 21, 1893 in Neuilly-sur-Seine ) was a German portrait and genre painter . In addition to oil painting , he was engaged in watercolor painting and miniature painting on ivory .

Live and act

Schlesinger studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna and initially worked in Vienna. Then he moved to Paris. In the period from 1840 to 1889 he showed his works in the Salon de Paris . In Istanbul in 1837 he portrayed Sultan Mahmud II. From 1870–1871 he lived in London .

Schlesinger was awarded the Legion of Honor in 1866 and received French citizenship in 1870.
