Wilhelm Hermann Georg Remer

Wilhelm Hermann Georg Remer (born July 9, 1775 in Braunschweig , † December 31, 1850 in Breslau ) was a German medic.

Life

The only son of Julius August Remer (1738–1803) studied in 1793 at the universities in Helmstedt , Jena and Göttingen for four and a half years. In Helmstedt he received his doctorate in medicine in 1797 with the treatise De plethora sanguinea ("On blood fullness") and was awarded a master's degree in philosophical sciences.

He completed his habilitation in Helmstedt in 1797 as a private lecturer, became an associate professor in 1799 and a full professor of medicine in 1804. He became the director of the outpatient clinic there.

After the University of Helmstedt had ceased teaching, he was appointed full professor and director of the outpatient clinic at the University of Königsberg in 1809 , he was also director of the insane asylum there and editor of the Königsberg archive.

In addition, he participated in the organizational tasks of the university and was prorector of the Alma Mater in 1809/10 and 1813/14 .

In 1815 he moved to the University of Breslau in the same capacity , was appointed Medical Councilor in 1816 and a member of the local medical college.

In 1830 he was appointed to the government medical council and in 1837 to the secret medical council . He also received the Red Eagle Order, second class.

As an extremely fruitful writer, he wrote numerous physical, chemical and medical works, some of which were translated into different languages. Much of this work can be found as essays in the specialist journals of the time. Remer was also a member of many learned societies.
