Wilhelm Küstner

Wilhelm Friedrich Küstner (born October 4, 1900 in Halle (Saale) ; † October 24, 1980 in Magdeburg ) was a German ear, nose and throat doctor and university professor.

Life

Wilhelm Küstner was the son of the Medical Council Dr. Wilhelm Küstner († 1928), ENT doctor and honorary member of the Corps Palaiomarchia. He started at the University of Marburg to study medicine and was on May 7, 1921 Corps Teutonia Marburg recipiert . As an inactive he moved to the Friedrichs University Halle , the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich and the Albert Ludwigs University of Freiburg . In 1928 he was awarded a Dr. med. PhD . He completed his specialist training with Woldemar Tonndorf (1887–1957) in Dresden . Küstner became senior physician there and from 1930 head physician of the ear, nose and throat clinic in the Dresden-Johannstadt City Hospital . In 1951 Küstner moved to Magdeburg and was appointed chief physician at the ENT clinic of the Gustav Ricker Municipal Hospital. With the establishment of the Medical Academy Magdeburg in 1954 he remained director of the ENT clinic. In 1956 he completed his habilitation in Magdeburg. In 1959 he was appointed professor with a teaching position and in 1961 appointed to the chair at the Medical Academy in Magdeburg. Küstner managed the clinic until his retirement in 1965. During this time, he introduced modern diagnostic and therapeutic methods, such as operations to improve hearing, radium therapy for laryngeal carcinomas , and endoscopic examinations of the larynx and esophagus , to the clinic. In 1960 he was honored with the Hufeland Medal (GDR) for his achievements . In 1966 he retired. From his marriage to Irmgard Steinhorst-Lindner in 1928, he had a son and a daughter.
