Wilhelm Kathol (born November 1, 1854 in Berlar , † April 24, 1944 in Thalfang im Hunsrück ) was a German technician and chemist .

Live and act

Wilhelm Kathol was born as the son of the farmer Lorenz Kathol in Berlar. After attending school in Berlar and Calle , he began an apprenticeship as a locksmith in Ramsbeck and Arnsberg . He then attended the trade school in Hagen and Koblenz . This was followed by activities as a technician and draftsman at machine factories in Cologne-Kalk and Grevenbroich . Then Kathol studied at the Technical University in Braunschweig .

After completing his studies, he began working for the Langen & Hundthausen machine factory (later the Grevenbroich machine factory). As a senior engineer he was responsible for the construction and installation of sugar factories in Germany , the Netherlands , France , Italy , Java , Hungary , USA , Cuba , Belgium , Switzerland and Persia . He lived in the USA for a long time until he returned to Germany in 1907. He initially lived in Cologne, developed his "Kathol-Filter" for cleaning juices, with which he found high recognition in professional circles. In 1916 he settled in Walporzheim in the Ahr valley.

At the old age of 80, he put his childhood memories on paper. He vividly depicts rural life in the 19th century. Dialect and standard German alternate. This means that the stories are easy to read even for “today's” people. He was married and had six children.
