Wilhelm Mauritz Klingspor , baron since 1771 , count since 1799 , Swedish Vilhelm Mauritz greve Klingspor (born December 7, 1744 in Fluxerum / Karlstorp, Jönköpings län ; † May 15, 1814 in Stockholm ) was a Swedish field marshal .

Life

Origin and family

Wilhelm was a member of a Swedish line of the widespread noble family Klingsporn . His parents were the Swedish lawyer Kristian Fredrik Klingspor (1711–1785) and Anna Magdalena Pauli (1721–1774).

Klingspor was raised to the Swedish count status in 1799 and introduced in 1752 to the count class of knighthood (No. 107).

His first marriage in 1771 was Anna Charlotta Petersén (1755-1810) and his second marriage in 1794 was with Hedvig Ulrika von Willebrand (1765-1795). The first marriage was divorced, whereupon his divorced wife also married the Lieutenant General Adam Ludvig Lewenhaupt (1748-1808) in 1794 . Six children have emerged from her first marriage.

Career

Klingspor began his career in the French service before becoming lieutenant in the Jönköping regiment in 1761 . He was promoted to captain in the Jämtland dragon regiment in 1767 and colonel in the Västerbotten regiment in 1779 . In 1783 he moved to the Dal regiment. In 1788 he was general director of the army in Finland and fought in the Russo-Swedish War . He was promoted to major general in 1789 and lieutenant general in 1790, and was simultaneously the commanding general in Finland and adjutant to King Gustav III. In 1799 he became President of the War College. In 1800 he accompanied King Gustaf IV. Adolf as adjutant general and member of the government to St. Petersburg . With his promotion to general of the infantry in 1802 he also became inspector general of the Finnish troops. In the Russo-Swedish War , which ended with the loss of Finland to Russia and the overthrow of the Swedish king, he led the army as field marshal. He then became Governor General in Norrland and Commander of Stockholm in 1809 . In 1810 he received his departure .
