Wilhelm Mohr (writer)

Wilhelm "Willem" Mohr (born August 2, 1912 in Hamburg-Francop ; † December 2, 2000 there ) was a German typesetter and Low German author .

Life

The son of a farmer attended elementary school in Francop. In 1927 he began an apprenticeship as a typesetter in Buxtehude . He then worked there and later in Werlte as a typesetter and book printer . In 1934 he became a soldier in the army and came towards the end of World War II in captivity , from which he 1949 home came. From 1949 to 1958 he worked in Hamburg-Harburg as a typesetter, printer and proofreader for the Harburg advertisements and news ; from 1958 to 1976 in Hamburg-Finkenwerder as an administrative employee .

Willem Mohr worked as a local researcher in his spare time . Two books on his homeland and seven books in Low German have been published by him. He was chairman of the Francop homeland club and co-founder and later “Öllermann” (Low German for elderly ) of the Plattdüütsch leevt club . His self-published books were also ordered by Low German associations in America, Canada and Holland. In addition to book readings, he occasionally had his say on the radio.

After his death, his body, like that of his wife Lisa, née Schütte, was buried in his parents' family grave at the Hamburg-Neuenfelde cemetery.
