Wilhelm Schupp (singer)

Wilhelm Schupp (born April 30, 1947 in Vienna ; † December 29, 2015 ) was an Austrian singer ( tenor ), director and artistic director .

Life

Schupp received his training as a tenor at the Vienna Conservatory and was a member of the Vienna Volksoper ensemble for many years . As a tenor, he interpreted numerous operetta roles at the Vienna People's and State Opera and other houses in Austria and Germany.

In 1973 he founded the Thalia Theater operetta and drama ensemble on Heiligenstädter Straße in Vienna and has been responsible for regular operettas and musical comedies ever since .

In 1984 he founded the Robert Stolz Festival together with the Bad Hall spa administration . These were renamed the Bad Hall Operetta Festival in 1989 and works by other composers were then performed. Schupp was artistic director, director, singer and set designer from 1984 until his death in 2015. Under his direction and participation, around 450 performances with more than 200,000 spectators were performed in 32 seasons lasting from June to August.

In addition, he is responsible for 151 stage productions, in which he directed 72 himself. He organized around 800 concerts where he moderated and sang.
