Wilhelm Semler (born March 8, 1844 in Warberg , † September 21, 1929 in Braunschweig ) was a German lawyer and politician and President of the Braunschweig State Parliament .

Life

Semler's father was a pastor and moved with his family to Braunschweig in 1853, where Wilhelm Semler passed his Abitur at the Martino-Katharineum . He then studied in Göttingen , Berlin and Heidelberg Jura . From 1869 Semler worked as a lawyer in Braunschweig. Because of his economic expertise, he was a member of the boards of numerous Braunschweig companies, such as the Braunschweigische Maschinenbauanstalt and the Braunschweigische Landes-Eisenbahn .

Since 1894 Semler was a member of the Braunschweigische Landtag , of which he was president from 1904 to 1909. As President of the Landtag, he was also a member of the second Regency Council of the Duchy of Braunschweig . In addition, he had been a member of the Braunschweig City Council from 1904, of which he was the first chairman almost 20 years later. In 1909 Semler resigned from all political offices.

His son Kurd Semler was Lord Mayor of the city of Braunschweig from 1952 to 1954 .
