Wilhelm Stöck (born February 21, 1922 in Koblenz , † February 25, 1997 in Hamburg ) was a German journalist and news anchor .

Life

After graduating from high school, Stöck first attended business school. At the navigation school he also received an A5 patent as a helmsman . Then he received his nautical training on the training ship Germany in the Atlantic.

After the Second World War , Stöck began working as a journalist and author, using the pseudonym Will Köst . He also worked in the Rhineland-Palatinate cabaret Hobby Horse . He also worked as a speaker for Radio Koblenz . From there he got a job at SWF Baden-Baden, where he worked as a reporter, author and news anchor until 1962. From 1962 to 1964 he spoke the news on Deutschlandfunk . 1964 changed Stöck to television, where he for 20 years in the ARD - Tagesschau presented the news. During this time he led a successful lawsuit against his employer because he had not been assigned to the main program by the chief spokesman Karl-Heinz Köpcke since 1978. The official reason for not considering Stöck for the main program was "poor quality", but the real background was an interview statement by Stöck that the Tagesschau was biased towards party politics. From 1981, after the successful trial, Stöck was allowed to moderate the main show again until his early retirement in 1984.

Stöck spent his twilight years in Hamburg, where he published several volumes of poetry with self-made watercolors and drawings.
