Wilhelm Wacek
Wilhelm Wacek (born October 28, 1864 in Sobeslau / Bohemia , † December 17, 1944 in Vienna ) was a military bandmaster and composer .
The son of the teacher and choirmaster Ignatz Wacek (1830–1898) studied at the Prague Conservatory from 1879 to 1882 ( violin with Anton Bennewitz , theory with Josef Bohuslav Foerster ). From 1883 to 1886 violinist at IR No. 73, from 1886 to 1894 City Music Director in Brixen . In 1894, Wacek took over the music band of the IR, s No. 4 " Hoch- und Deutschmeister ", as successor to Carl Michael Ziehrer , which he - also on tours abroad (eg 1910 on the occasion of the world exhibition in Buenos Aires , at the expense of the industrialist Arthur Krupp ) and at numerous popular concerts - successfully conducted until 1918 ("Philharmonic in Uniform"). After the First World War , he initiated the professional orchestra of the so-called Original Hoch- und Deutschmeister as a successor ensemble , which was soon led by Julius Herrmann .
He was buried in the Vienna Central Cemetery (69B-10).
