Wilhelm von Alemann

Wilhelm Andreas Freiherr von Alemann (born February 18, 1798 in Mediasch ; † May 28, 1881 in Vienna ) was an Austrian field master of the Imperial and Royal Army , who was in command of the Theresian Military Academy between 1850 and 1854 .

Life

Wilhelm Andreas Freiherr von Alemann graduated from the Theresian Military Academy and, after graduating, joined the Pioneer Corps of the Imperial and Royal Army in 1817 . In 1828 he was transferred as an officer to the staff of the Quartermaster General in the presidential office of the Court War Council . In 1844 he was appointed commander of the 59th Infantry Regiment . During the First Italian War of Independence after the March Revolution in 1848 he was promoted to major general on November 5, 1848 and wounded on March 23, 1849 during the Battle of Novara .

After von Alemann was briefly division commander in the Kingdom of Hungary in 1850, he was promoted to field marshal lieutenant on October 22, 1850 and served as the commander of the Theresian Military Academy between 1850 and 1854 . In 1854 he became the commandant of the occupation corps in the Principality of Wallachia as well as the owner of the Infantry Regiment No. 43 before he became commandant of the X Corps in 1856 . At the same time he was appointed privy councilor. Most recently he held the post of commandant of Venice between 1859 and 1866 and was promoted to Feldzeugmeister on November 22, 1864 during this time . He retired on October 7, 1866.
