Karl Ernst Wilhelm Freiherr von Fircks (born December 22, 1840 in Breslau ; † January 4, 1896 in Charlottenburg ) was a Prussian major general and commander of the 21st Infantry Brigade and from 1876 publisher of the pocket calendar for the army .

Life

Wilhelm von Fircks was a son of the Prussian major general Wilhelm von Fircks (1794-1862) and his second wife Ernestine, born von Rabe (1802-1866), widowed von Warburg.

Military career

At the end of March 1859 Fircks joined the 1st Guards Regiment on foot in the Prussian Army as a flag junior and in mid-July 1860 advanced to secondary lieutenant . On February 23, 1861 he was transferred to the 3rd Guards Regiment on foot and on March 12, 1861 to the 3rd Guards Grenadier Regiment . He acted as an adjutant to the Fusilier Battalion and took part in the war against Denmark in 1864. After the end of the war, Fricks was adjutant of the 1st battalion and in this capacity took part in the battles of Thrush and Königgrätz in 1866 during the war against Austria . After his promotion to Premier Lieutenant Fircks worked from December 16, 1866 to July 15, 1870 as a regimental adjutant. As leader of the 10th Company he was badly wounded by a shot in the abdomen during the war against France in the battle of Gravelotte and was awarded the Iron Cross, 2nd class.

After other assignments in the adjutantage and multiple transfers within the Guard Corps, he came in 1887 as a lieutenant colonel in the 1st Silesian Grenadier Regiment No. 10 . On September 21, 1889 he became a colonel and commander in the 3rd Upper Silesian Infantry Regiment No. 62 in Cosel. On November 26, 1892 he was initially assigned to lead the 21st Infantry Brigade in Breslau and Fircks was appointed brigade commander with the promotion to major general on January 27, 1893. In approval of his resignation request, he was put up for disposal on June 16, 1894 with the statutory pension and died on January 4, 1896.

Fircks married on November 26, 1868 in Kasimir Anna von Prittwitz and Gaffron (1849-1927). The couple had several children:
