Wilhelm von Mengersen

Friedrich Wilhelm Bruno Freiherr ( count since 1816 ) von Mengersen (born February 25, 1777 in Rheder ; † October 27, 1836 in Zschepplin ) was a nobleman, born in the Principality of Paderborn in Westphalia. He was in the service of the Principality of Paderborn ( Prussia ) and the Kingdom of Westphalia .

Life

In 1800 he inherited the estates of the family of Mengersen in the Bishopric of Paderborn , Castle Rheder , Borgholz and Warburg . Then there were the Drosteien zu Schwalenberg , Oldenburg (Paderbornisch-Lippisch), Lügde (Paderbornisch) and Woldenburg (Hildesheimisch). In 1803 he was enfeoffed with the Himminghausen, Langeland estates acquired from his father. He carried the inherited family title of hereditary gatekeeper of the Principality of Paderborn.

During the time of the Kingdom of Westphalia, Mengersen was a courtier at the court of Jérôme Bonaparte . Among other things, he was the honorary stable master of Queen Katharina . Between 1808 and 1813 he was also a member of the imperial estates of the Kingdom of Westphalia and a member of the council of the Höxter district . He was honored on February 5, 1810 when he was appointed Knight of the Order of the Westphalian Crown .

At the time of the Wars of Liberation he was in Prussian service and between 1813 and 1815 was a high-ranking officer of the Landsturm . In 1814 he was appointed Imperial Austrian Chamberlain. Mengersen acquired the Zschepplin estate near Eilenburg. On January 17, 1816 he was raised to the Prussian count status.

In 1822 he was a member of the trust men commission in Berlin. In 1826 and 1828 he was a member of the Provincial Parliament of the Province of Westphalia . At times he was also in talks for the office of the Landtag marshal.

family

Wilhelm von Mengersen was the son of Clemens August von Mengersen (1742–1800), a princely Hildesheim and Paderborn privy councilor and high court marshal. His mother was Maria Anna von Westphalen zu Fürstenberg (1755-?). On August 2, 1802, Wilhelm von Mengersen married Therese Freiin von Bender and Loitha (January 20, 1785 - August 17, 1844). His son Joseph Bruno von Mengersen (1804–1873) was a member of the Provincial Parliament of Westphalia from 1851–1852 and a member of the United State Parliament in 1847 .
