William of Saliceto
Wilhelm von Saliceto or Guglielmo da Saliceto , in more recent times also Guglielmo da Piacenza (* after 1210 in Cadeo-Saliceto near Piacenza ; † around 1286, probably in Verona ), was an Italian doctor and surgeon from Lombardy . Wilhelm was a city doctor in Verona and a professor of medicine in Bologna .
He received his surgical training from Ugo Borgognoni and Teodorico Borgognoni . He also had collegial contact with Bruno von Longoburgo . Wilhelm von Saliceto and his pupil Lanfrank von Milan pioneered surgical anatomy.
With Hugo von Lucca , his son Theodorich von Cervia and Roland von Parma , Wilhelm founded the Bolognese School of Surgery.
