Life

Karl Wilhelm Edelhoff is the son of the parish pastor of Veltheim, who died in 1949. He graduated from high school in Minden and then worked as a miner for several months in underground mining in Oberhausen . He then studied Protestant theology at the Bethel Church University and the University of Heidelberg. He switched to economics at the same university and in Hamburg and passed his examination for a degree in economics. In 1965 and 1966 he interrupted his studies and worked in the metal industry and the publishing industry in Stuttgart. Since then he has been a member of IG Metall . From 1967 to 1971 Edelhoff was a research assistant in the study group for systems research in Heidelberg and co-author of several studies on behalf of the European Community for the state funding of research and development in various industrialized countries. From September 1971 to mid-1989 he was the full-time managing director of the Baden-Württemberg consumer advice center.

politics

After joining the SPD in 1968, he was elected to the state parliament in 1972 thanks to a very good election result in his Heidelberg constituency via the second count and confirmed in 1976 . In 1980 , he narrowly missed re-election because the Greens won a state parliament mandate in the Heidelberg constituency.

The focus of his work in the state parliament was university policy, environmental and consumer issues. Repeated inquiries as opposition politicians about the proper attainment and use of budget funds within the budget of individual university clinics led to the establishment of a parliamentary committee of inquiry into the financial management of the universities in Baden-Württemberg.

Karl Wilhelm Edelhoff lives today in Kirchheimbolanden .
