Willi Körtels

Willi Körtels (born 1947 in Schöndorf in the Trier-Saarburg district ) is a German grammar school teacher and local historian as well as the author of non-fiction books and publisher, for example, on the history of the Jews, particularly around the Trier region .

Life

Willi Körtels was born in Schöndorf an der Ruwer in 1947 and initially trained as an agricultural manager before taking his Abitur in 1970 in Koblenz . He then studied Catholic theology and German in Trier at the university there and in Freiburg im Breisgau at the Albert Ludwigs University .

From 1977 to 2010, Körtels taught German and religion at the high school in Konz , most recently as senior teacher.

The researcher on the local Jewish history of various places is the founder of the “Trier Memorial” [mahnmal-trier.de] and co-founder of the Könen Synagogue Association, which is active around the former synagogue in Könen , through the Körtels or his colleague Bruno Lauscher, for example, guided tours through the Jewish Cemetery in Könen organized or accompanied by explanations.

Of his numerous writings, including on modern anti-Semitism and the history of the Jews, for example von Oberemmel , his work Jewish Biographies of the Trier Region is part of the Anne Frank Shoah Library .
