William B. Pine

William Bliss Pine (born December 30, 1877 in Bluffs , Scott County , Illinois , †  August 25, 1942 in Okmulgee , Oklahoma ) was an American politician ( Republican Party ) who represented the state of Oklahoma in the United States Senate.

After attending the public school, Pine initially worked as a teacher himself. He later worked as a combine harvester salesman before moving to Chanute , Kansas , where he found employment in the oil business. In 1904 he moved on to Oklahoma, where he settled in Okmulgee in 1909 and continued to be intensively involved in oil production.

In 1924, William B. Pine was elected to the US Senate for the Republicans, where he took his seat on March 4, 1925; he succeeded the Democrat Robert L. Owen . In 1930 Pine ran for re-election, but was defeated by the Democrat Thomas Pryor Gore and consequently left the Congress on March 3, 1931 .

Pine went back to his business activities. In 1934 he made an attempt to return to politics, but lost the election to governor of Oklahoma. In 1942 he was put up again by his party as a candidate for the Senate, but he died before the election.
