Joshua Bryan Lee (born  January 23, 1892 in Childersburg , Alabama , †  August 10, 1967 in Norman , Oklahoma ) was an American politician ( Democratic Party ).

Life

Alabama-born Lee moved as a child with his parents to Pauls Valley , Oklahoma, which was still a territory at the time ; later the family lived near Hobart in Kiowa County . After attending school, he began studying at Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee . From 1911 to 1913 he worked as a teacher in Rocky ( Washita County operates); He also worked at Baptist University as an athletics trainer, where he gave free speech courses. Lee graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1917; he obtained a degree in political science at Columbia University in 1924 and in law at the Law School of Cumberland University in Tennessee the following year.

During World War I , Joshua Lee served as a private in the U.S. Army infantry from 1917 to 1918 . From 1919 to 1934 he was the head of the Public Speaking Department (later the communications department ) at the University of Oklahoma; During this time he was also active as an author and editor. He also owned and managed a ranch in western Oklahoma and a farm near Norman.

Congressman and Senator

From 1935 to 1937 Joshua B. Lee was a member of the United States House of Representatives for the Democratic Party . He was not considered for a new candidacy in 1936, but was elected to the US Senate for Oklahoma in the same year . His term of office ended there on January 3, 1943; he had not been reelected the year before.

From 1943 to 1955 Joshua B. Lee worked for the Civil Aeronautics Board , an agency that was subordinate to the US Department of Commerce but which worked independently and was responsible for safety regulations in civil aviation. He then returned to Norman and practiced as a lawyer. He died in 1967.
