John A. Sullivan

John A. Sullivan (born January 1, 1965 in Tulsa , Oklahoma ) is an American politician ( Republican Party ). Between 2002 and 2013 he represented the first constituency of the state of Oklahoma in the US House of Representatives .

Career

John Sullivan attended Bishop Kelley High School in Tulsa and then studied economics at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah . He has been active in the real estate market since 1992.

Between 1995 and 2002 he was an MP in the Oklahoma House of Representatives . On January 8, 2002 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in a by-election in the first constituency of the state, where he succeeded the resigned Steve Largent on February 15, 2002 . After he was confirmed with a clear absolute majority in the following elections, he can still exercise his mandate in the US Congress today. His term of office ended on January 3, 2011. When he was last re-elected in 2008, he received 66 percent of the vote; his Democratic rival Georgianna Oliver got 34 percent.

Sullivan was a member of the Committee on Trade and Energy and the Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming , which deals with the problems of global warming and the independence of energy producers and suppliers. John Sullivan was considered one of the most conservative members of Congress; he is counted on the right wing of the Republicans. He is against abortion and stem cell research. He is also against restrictions on gun rights and advocates a border fence between the United States and Mexico to prevent illegal border crossings. Sullivan supported the passage of the USA PATRIOT Act and is against a rapid withdrawal of troops from Iraq . During President George W. Bush's term in office , he approved 100% of the President's proposals in Congress.

In 2009 he had his alcoholic illness treated at the Betty Ford Center . In 2012 he was no longer nominated for re-election by his party.

John Sullivan is married to Judy Beck, with whom he has four children.
