William K. Brewster

William K. "Bill" Brewster (born November 8, 1941 in Ardmore , Oklahoma ) is an American politician . Between 1991 and 1997 he represented the third constituency of the state of Oklahoma in the US House of Representatives .

Career

William Brewster attended public schools in his home country and in Texas . Until 1968 he studied at Southwestern Oklahoma State University . Between 1966 and 1971 he was a member of the US Army Reserve . In the following years he became a pharmacist, rancher and owner of a real estate company.

Politically, Brewster became a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1983 and 1990 he was a member of the Oklahoma House of Representatives . In 1990 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in the Third District of Oklahoma. He was able to prevail within his party against the previous Congressman Wes Watkins . After two re-elections Brewster was able to complete three terms in Congress between January 3, 1991 and January 3, 1997 .

In 1996 he declined to run again. His seat fell back to his predecessor Watkins, who had since converted to the Republican Party . In 1998, Brewster was under discussion as a possible candidate for the gubernatorial election . But then he decided not to run.
