Kevin Hern

Kevin Ray Hern (born December 4, 1961 in Belton , Missouri ) is an American politician . He has represented the US state Oklahoma in the US House of Representatives since November 13, 2018 .

Career

Kevin Hern attended Dover High School in Dover , Arkansas , which he graduated in 1980. He then studied at Arkansas Tech University in Russellville , where he graduated in 1986 with a Bachelor of Science . While he later worked for the aerospace company Rockwell International , he was also working on a dissertation at the Georgia Institute of Technology in the field of space technology. In Arkansas he also attended the University of Arkansas in Little Rock between 1997 and 1999 , from which he graduated with a Master of Business Administration . After the Challenger disaster in 1986 , he initially had problems finding a new job before becoming a franchisee , i.e. a franchisee , of the McDonald’s fast food chain . In 1997 he bought his first McDonald's in North Little Rock . In 1999 he sold these again and acquired two more branches in Muskogee , Oklahoma. The business grew to ten branches in the entire area around the city of Tulsa .

After Republican Jim Bridenstine took up his new position as director of NASA , Hern ran for the vacated seat of the 1st Congressional Constituency of Oklahoma. In the primary he won against Tim Harris within the party and was then able to prevail against the Democratic rival Tim Gilpin in the fight for the vacant seat. He took up his post on November 13, 2018.

Personal

Hern and his wife, Tammy, are the parents of three children. You live in Tulsa. Hern is a member of the gun lobby NRA , which gives him strong public support. In addition, he advocates increased border surveillance in the south and open markets and is considered an anti-abortionist ( pro-life ).
