Lyle Hagler Boren (born May 11, 1909 in Waxahachie , Ellis County , Texas , † July 2, 1992 in Oklahoma City , Oklahoma ) was an American politician . Between 1937 and 1947 he represented the fourth constituency of the state of Oklahoma in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Lyle Boren moved to Lawton , Oklahoma, in 1917 , where he attended public schools. Until 1930 he studied at East Central College in Ada . He also graduated from Oklahoma Agricultural and Mechanical College in Stillwater . Between 1930 and 1935 he worked as a teacher at various schools in the city of Wolf . He was then employed by the Treasury Department's procurement office. He later worked in agriculture and trade in Oklahoma. Boren was also a member of the U.S. Navy Reserve .

Politically, he became a member of the Democratic Party . In 1936 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington in the fourth district of Oklahoma . There he replaced his party colleague Percy Lee Gassaway on January 3, 1937 . Since Lyle Boren was re-elected in the following four congressional elections, he was able to complete five terms in Congress until January 3, 1947 . For the elections of 1946 he was no longer nominated by his party.

After his time in Congress was over, Lyle Boren returned to his private business. In addition to agriculture, he also worked in the oil industry and became the head of an oil company. Between 1954 and 1970 he represented the Association of Western Railroads . He then worked for the Oklahoma State Insurance Commissioner's office. Boren died in Oklahoma City in July 1992.

Lyle Boren was a member of a well-known Oklahoma family of politicians. His son David , born in 1941, was the governor of Oklahoma and a US senator ; his grandson Dan represented the second congressional electoral district in the House of Representatives until 2013 .
