Scott Ferris (born November 3, 1877 in Neosho , Missouri , †  June 8, 1945 in Oklahoma City , Oklahoma ) was an American politician . Between 1907 and 1915 he represented the fifth and from 1915 to 1921 the sixth constituency of the state of Oklahoma in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Scott Ferris attended his homeland public schools and then Newton County High School through 1897 . After studying law at the Kansas City School of Law and being admitted to the bar in 1901, he began his new profession in Lawton . Politically, Ferris became a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1904 and 1905 he was a member of the House of Representatives for the Oklahoma Territory .

After the establishment of the state of Oklahoma, Scott Ferris was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the fifth district of Oklahoma . He took up this mandate on November 16, 1907. He was re-elected in 1908, 1910 and 1912. This allowed him to represent his district in Congress until March 3, 1915 . In the elections of 1914 he was elected in the sixth district, which he represented after two re-elections until March 3, 1921 in Congress as the successor to William H. Murray . There he was meanwhile chairman of the committee for the administration of state property. In 1912 and 1916 he was a delegate to the Democratic National Conventions , where Woodrow Wilson was each nominated as a presidential candidate.

In 1920 Ferris decided not to run again for the House of Representatives. Instead, he ran unsuccessfully for a seat in the US Senate . After serving in Congress, Ferris moved to New York City , where he worked in the oil business between 1921 and 1924. In 1925 he returned to Oklahoma. There he worked as a lawyer, in agriculture and in the oil business. From 1924 to 1940 he was a member of the Democratic National Committee . He died in Oklahoma City in June 1945.
