George H. Wilson
George Howard Wilson (born August 21, 1905 in Mattoon , Illinois , † July 16, 1985 in Enid , Oklahoma ) was an American politician . Between 1949 and 1951 he represented the eighth constituency of the state of Oklahoma in the US House of Representatives .
Career
George Wilson moved to Enid, Oklahoma with his parents at a young age. There he attended public schools including Phillips University , which he graduated from in 1926. After studying law at the University of Michigan and the University of Oklahoma , he was admitted to the bar in 1929. Then he began to work in Enid in his new profession. Between 1934 and 1938, Wilson served as a special investigator for the FBI ; from 1939 to 1942 he was the legal representative of the city of Enid. During World War II , he served as a legal colonel in the US Army . He was used in the South Atlantic area.
Politically, Wilson was a member of the Democratic Party . In 1948 he was elected as their candidate for the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he succeeded Ross Rizley of the Republican Party on January 3, 1949 . But since he was defeated by the Republican Page Belcher in the following elections , George Wilson could only complete one term in Congress until January 3, 1951 .
After serving in Congress, Wilson was head of the Oklahoma State Criminal Investigation Department in 1951 and a judge in Garfield County from 1952 to 1968 . In 1968, he became president of a law conference in Oklahoma. In 1969, Wilson became the presiding judge of the Fourth District First Court.
