Kendra Horn

Kendra Horn (born June 9, 1976 in Chickasha , Oklahoma ) is an American politician of the Democratic Party . She was elected to the United States House of Representatives for the first time in November 2018 . There she has represented the fifth district of Oklahoma since January 3, 2019 .

Life

Kendra Horn grew up in Oklahoma. In 1998, she earned a Bachelor degree in Politics at the University of Tulsa and 2001 a Juris Doctor of Law School of Southern Methodist University . She works as a lawyer and as a political advisor. Between 2015 and 2017 she was the managing director of two non-profit organizations , Sally's List and Women lead Oklohoma , which campaigned for women to run for political office.

Horn is from Chickasha , Grady County and now lives in Oklahoma City . She is married.

From 2004 to 2005, Horn was a press officer for Congressman Brad Carson . In 2014, she was the campaign manager for the Democratic nominee for Oklahoma Governor Joe Dorman .

In the Democratic primary , Horn ran against five other candidates in the 5th Congressional District of Oklahoma, gaining 44.2% of the vote. Since she had not reached 50%, a runoff election was necessary in Oklahoma , which she won with 75.8%. Horn's campaign topics were primarily health care and education. The district was considered to be very republican and had been represented by a republican since the 1970s. Most recently, John Jarman represented the electoral district for the Democrats in Congress from 1951 to 1977.

In the general election she prevailed with 50.7% of the vote against the incumbent, Republican Steve Russell , who received 49.3%.
