George B. Schwabe

George Blaine Schwabe (born July 26, 1886 in Arthur , Vernon County , Missouri , † April 2, 1952 in Alexandria , Virginia ) was an American politician . Between 1945 and 1949 and from 1951 to 1952 he represented the first constituency of the state of Oklahoma in the US House of Representatives .

Career

George Schwabe was the older brother of Max Schwabe , who was a Congressman for the State of Missouri between 1943 and 1948. He attended the schools in his home country and then studied law at the University of Missouri . After his admission as a lawyer in 1910, he began to work in Columbia in his new profession.

In 1911 Schwabe moved to Nowata , Oklahoma, where he also practiced as a lawyer. He became a member of the Republican Party . Between 1913 and 1914 he was mayor of Nowata and from 1918 to 1922 he was on the school council of that place. At the same time he was a member of the Oklahoma House of Representatives . In 1921 and 1922 he served as its president. In 1922 George Schwabe moved to Tulsa , where he also worked as a lawyer. Between 1928 and 1936 he was President of the Republicans in Tulsa County . Since 1912 he has attended all Republican party conventions at the state level in Oklahoma. In June 1936 he was a delegate to the Republican National Convention in Cleveland .

In 1944 Schwabe was elected to the US House of Representatives in the first district of Oklahoma, where he replaced Wesley E. Disney from the Democratic Party on January 3, 1945 . After being re-elected in 1946, George Schwabe was initially able to serve two legislative terms in Congress . In the 1948 election he was defeated by Dixie Gilmer . In 1950 he was able to regain his seat in Congress. There he took up another term of office on January 3, 1951, which he could not end because he died in the middle of the legislative period in April 1952. During his tenure in Congress, he was a member of the Budget Committee.
