William G. Stigler

William Grady Stigler (born July 7, 1891 in Stigler , Haskell County , Oklahoma , † August 21, 1952 ) was an American politician . Between 1944 and 1952 he represented the 2nd Congressional Constituency of Oklahoma in the US House of Representatives .

Career

William Stigler attended the public schools of his home country and then Northeastern State College in Tahlequah until 1912 . He then studied law at the University of Oklahoma at Norman . During the First World War he was a soldier in an infantry unit in the US Army in France. After the war he studied at the University of Grenoble until 1919 .

After his return to the United States and his admission as a lawyer in 1920, he began to work in his home town of Stigler in his new profession. Between 1920 and 1924 he was the city's legal representative. Politically, William Stigler was a member of the Democratic Party . From 1924 to 1932 he was a member of the Oklahoma Senate , where he was its president in 1931. Between 1925 and 1938, Stigler was also a member of the Oklahoma National Guard, where he made it to lieutenant colonel.

After the resignation of Congressman John Conover Nichols , Stigler was elected as his successor in the House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the necessary by- election. There he took up his new mandate on March 28, 1944. In the following regular elections in 1944, 1946, 1948 and 1950, Stigler was confirmed. This allowed him to remain in Congress until his death on August 21, 1952 .
