Charles O'Connor (politician)

Charles O'Connor (born October 26, 1878 in Edina , Knox County , Missouri , † November 15, 1940 in Denver , Colorado ) was an American politician . Between 1929 and 1931 he represented the first constituency of the state of Oklahoma in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Charles O'Connor was born on a farm in Missouri. He attended the public schools of his home country and then until 1901 the State Teacher's College in Greeley (Colorado). After a subsequent law degree at the University of Colorado in Boulder , he was between 1911 and 1913 employee of the Attorney General of Colorado. From 1917 to 1918 he was a lawyer for the city of Boulder.

In 1919, O'Connor moved to Tulsa , Oklahoma, where he worked as a lawyer. He became a member of the Republican Party . In the congressional elections of 1928 O'Connor was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington in the first district of Oklahoma , where he replaced Everette B. Howard on March 4, 1929 . In the next congressional elections he was defeated by Wesley E. Disney , the candidate of the Democratic Party . Therefore, until March 3, 1931, he was only able to serve one term in Congress .

After serving in Congress, Charles O'Connor worked as a lawyer in Tulsa. In 1936 he moved to Boulder for health reasons. He died in Denver in November 1940.
