Page Henry Belcher (born April 21, 1899 in Jefferson , Grant County , Oklahoma , † August 2, 1980 in Midwest City , Oklahoma) was an American politician . Between 1951 and 1953 he represented the eighth and from 1953 to 1973 the first constituency of the state of Oklahoma in the US House of Representatives .

Life

Page Belcher attended high schools in Jefferson and Medford , then studied at Friends University in Wichita and the University of Oklahoma at Norman , where he studied law . Before taking this course, he took part in the First World War as a soldier . He later served as a clerk at the Garfield County District Court . After being admitted to the bar, Belcher began to work in Enid in 1936 in his new profession. There he was appointed city judge in 1938.

Belcher became a member of the Republican Party . Within his party he rose to the board of directors in Oklahoma as State Executive Secretary . In 1941 he became secretary to Congressman Ross Rizley . Belcher also became a member of the Enid School Council.

In 1950 Belcher was elected to the US House of Representatives in the eighth District of Oklahoma, where he replaced George H. Wilson on January 3, 1951 . After that, the eighth constituency was abolished. For this reason, Belcher ran in 1952 in the first district of the state for re-election to Congress . After his successful election, he replaced George B. Schwabe on January 3, 1953 . In the following years Belcher was confirmed in his office. This enabled him to complete a total of eleven consecutive terms in Congress between January 3, 1951 and January 3, 1973.

In 1972, Page Belcher did not run for another term. After leaving Congress, he retired, which he spent in Midwest City. He died there in 1980.
