Samuel James Montgomery (born December 1, 1896 in Buffalo , LaRue County , Kentucky , † June 4, 1957 in Oklahoma City , Oklahoma ) was an American politician . Between 1925 and 1927 he represented the first constituency of the state of Oklahoma in the US House of Representatives .

Career

In 1902, Samuel Montgomery came to Bartlesville , Oklahoma Territory, with his parents . He attended public schools in his new home and then studied law at the University of Oklahoma . After his admission to the bar in 1919, he began working in his new profession in Bartlesville. Before that, he took part in the First World War as a soldier . He was honored by the French government for his military achievements.

Montgomery became a member of the Republican Party , whose candidate he was elected to the US House of Representatives in 1924. There he replaced Everette B. Howard on March 3, 1925 . Already in the next congressional elections Montgomery lost again to Howard, so that he could only complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1927 . After serving in Congress, Montgomery worked as a lawyer in Tulsa . He later moved his practice to Oklahoma City, where he died in 1957.
