Frank D. Lucas (born January 6, 1960 in Cheyenne , Oklahoma ) is an American politician . Between 1994 and 2003 he represented the sixth constituency of the state of Oklahoma in the US House of Representatives . Since 2003 he has exercised the same mandate for the third district.

Career

Frank Lucas studied agriculture at Oklahoma State University until 1982 . Then he decided to go into politics. Lucas became a member of the Republican Party , which he chaired in Roger Mills County . In his district he organized the election campaign for US Senator Don Nickles .

In 1984 and 1986, Lucas ran unsuccessfully for a seat in the Oklahoma House of Representatives . In 1988 he was elected to this body, where he remained with one interruption until 1994. There he stood out for his conservative attitude. He was and is a supporter of the death penalty and an opponent of abortion laws.

After the resignation of Congressman Glenn English , Lucas was elected to the US House of Representatives with 70% of the vote in the by-election in the sixth constituency, where he took up his new mandate on May 10, 1994. As he was re-elected in all subsequent elections, including the one in 2016, he can continue to exercise his mandate today. His latest legislative term runs until January 3, 2019. After a new division of the constituencies, Lucas took over the third constituency of his state in 2002. He was or is a member of the Agriculture Committee, which he headed between 2011 and 2015, the Finance Committee and the Science and Technology Committee. Frank Lucas is married and lives privately in Cheyenne.
