Steven Dane "Steve" Russell (born May 25, 1963 in Oklahoma City , Oklahoma ) is an American politician . From 2015 to 2019 he represented the state of Oklahoma in the US House of Representatives .

Career

In 1981 Steve Russell graduated from Del City High School in Oklahoma. He then studied until 1985 at Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia in the state of Arkansas . Between 1985 and 2006 he served in the United States Army , where he rose to Lieutenant Colonel . During this time he was also stationed in various countries outside the United States. He took an active part in the Iraq war and in the military operation in Afghanistan . He has received several medals for his military achievements, including the Bronze Star and the National Defense Service Medal . After his military service, he gave lectures to support American soldiers in war operations. He also wrote treatises on contemporary events. Among other things, he wrote a book about the arrest of Saddam Hussein entitled We Got Him . He has also appeared on television and radio programs. He founded a company that manufactures weapons and recreates Iraqi weapons from the Iraq war. Politically, he joined the Republican Party . He was a member of the Oklahoma Senate from 2008 to 2012 .

In the 2014 congressional election , Russell was elected to the US House of Representatives in the fifth constituency of Oklahoma in Washington, DC , where he succeeded James Lankford , who moved to the US Senate , on January 3, 2015 . He won with 60:36 percent of the vote against the Democrat Al McAffrey . Re-elected in 2016, he will also serve in the 115th Congress of the United States , which will meet on January 3, 2017 . His new legislative term ran until January 3, 2019. In the 2018 congressional elections, he was defeated by Kendra Horn , the Democratic candidate with 49.3% of the vote , who received 50.7% and thus left the House of Representatives.
