David Keith "Dave" McCurdy (born March 30, 1950 in Canadian , Texas ) is an American politician . Between 1981 and 1995 he represented the fourth constituency of the state of Oklahoma in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Dave McCurdy attended the public schools of his home country and then studied law at the University of Oklahoma until 1975, among other things. In the same year he was admitted to the bar. Between 1977 and 1978 he studied international economics at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland . McCurdy was also in the US Air Force reserves , where he made it to major.

McCurdy became a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1975 and 1977 he was the Assistant Attorney General of Oklahoma. He then worked as a private lawyer until 1980. That year he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington , where he replaced Tom Steed on January 3, 1981 . After he was confirmed in the following six elections, he was able to exercise his mandate in Congress until January 3, 1995. Between 1991 and 1993 he was chairman of the secret service committee. He was also a member of several sub-committees.

In 1994 McCurdy declined to run again. Instead, he ran unsuccessfully for a seat in the US Senate . He was then chairman of McCurdy Group LLC; In 1998 he took over the chairmanship of the Association of Manufacturers of Electronic Devices ( Electronic Industries Alliance ). In February 2007, McCurdy became president of the Association of Automobile Manufacturers.

Dave McCurdy now lives with his wife, child psychologist Dr. Pam McCurdy, and their three children in McLean ( Virginia ). After the election of Barack Obama as US President , he was considered a possible candidate for the post of Secretary of Defense. The president ultimately left the previous incumbent Robert Gates in this post.
