Bjørn Skaare (born October 29, 1958 in Oslo ; † June 21, 1989 ibid) was a Norwegian ice hockey player who played for the Detroit Red Wings in the National Hockey League from 1976 to 1988, among others .
Career
Bjørn Skaare began his career as an ice hockey player with Färjestad BK , for whose professional team he made his debut in the Swedish Elitserien in the 1976/77 season . The attacker then spent a year with the Ottawa 67’s from the Canadian junior league Ontario Hockey Association before he was selected in the fourth round of the 1978 NHL Amateur Draft as the 62nd player by the Detroit Red Wings . For the team from Michigan he was the first Norwegian in the 1978/79 season in a game of the National Hockey League on the ice, which was his only use. He spent the rest of the time in the Detroit franchise with their farm team from the Central Hockey League , the Kansas City Red Wings . After this season he left North America again and returned for two years to his Norwegian homeland, where he competed in the GET league for Furuset IF , with which he won the national championship for the first time in the 1979/80 season.
After Skaare had spent the 1981/82 season at EC KAC in the Austrian ice hockey league , for which he scored 38 goals in 38 games and also gave 38 assists, he signed again with Furuset from the Norwegian capital Oslo, with whom he again in 1983 Master became and for which he played until 1985. The 1983/84 season ended the national player and Olympic participant in the CHL with the Tulsa Oilers , but left the team after the league was dissolved in the summer after only eleven games. Up to the end of his career following the 1987/88 season, Skaare was under contract with Furuset as well as with Bergen / Djerv and SK Djerv in the 1st divisjon . On June 21, 1989, at the age of 30, he died of a car accident near his hometown Oslo.

For Norway Skaare took part in the B World Championships in 1979 and 1981 and the Winter Olympics in Sarajevo in 1984 .
