William J. Coyne

William Joseph Coyne (born August 24, 1936 in Pittsburgh , Pennsylvania , † November 3, 2013 in Oakland , Pennsylvania) was an American politician . Between 1981 and 2003 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

William Coyne attended Central Catholic High School in Pittsburgh until 1954 . Between 1955 and 1957 he served in the US Army . He then studied at Robert Morris College in Pittsburgh until 1965 . He then worked as an accountant. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1970 and 1972 he was a member of the House of Representatives from Pennsylvania ; from 1974 to 1980 he sat on the Pittsburgh City Council.

In the 1980 congressional election , Coyne was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 14th  constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded William S. Moorhead on January 3, 1981 . After ten re-elections, he was able to complete eleven legislative terms in Congress by January 3, 2003 . The terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 took place during this period . Coyne was a member of the Committee on Ways and Means for many years . In 2002 he decided not to run again.
