William McCaughey

William McCaughey (born December 12, 1929 in Kansas City , Missouri , † May 26, 2000 in Rancho Cucamonga , California ) was an American sound engineer .

Life

McCaughey began his career in the film business in the early 1970s when he was over 40 years old. In 1976 he was nominated for the first Oscar in the category Best Sound for The Wind and the Lion . The following year he was nominated twice for an Oscar with King Kong and Rocky , but could not win the award again. In 1979 he received the Oscar They Go Through Hell ; a fifth and final time he was Oscar-nominated for Meteor in 1980 . McCaughey also worked for television productions from the early 1980s and was nominated for an Emmy several times . He won the Emmy three times (1981, 1984 and 1990) in the “Best Sound” category. He died in May 2000 at the age of 70.
