William L. O'Neill

William Lawrence O'Neill (born April 18, 1935 in Big Rapids , Michigan , † March 29, 2016 in New Brunswick , New Jersey ) was an American social and political historian who was primarily concerned with the history of the United States of America 20th century busy.

Life

William Lawrence O'Neill was born in 1935 in Big Rapids, a small town north of Grand Rapids , as the eldest son of John O'Neill, a wildcatter , and his wife Helen (née Marsh), who worked as a teacher, and spent his there Childhood.

He graduated from the University of Michigan . After graduating there , he continued his studies at the University of California, Berkeley , where he received his PhD in history. He then taught at the University of Pittsburgh , the University of Colorado and the University of Wisconsin . From 1971 he taught at Rutgers University . In 2006 he retired here . He has published more than a dozen books during his academic career.

O'Neill was married and had two daughters. He died in March 2016, the consequences of septic shock as a result of pneumonia . He was buried in Elmwood Cemetery in New Brunswick, New Jersey.
