William L. Stefanov

William L. Stefanov (* in Webster , Massachusetts ) is an American geoscientist and specialist author. Stefanov works as a Senior Geoscientist at the Image Science and Analysis Laboratory at NASA Johnson Space Center .

Life

Stefanov studied geosciences at the University of Massachusetts at Lowell , where he received his bachelor's degree, and then from Arizona State University , where he received a Masters of Science degree in physical volcanology and igneous petrology and a Ph.D. graduated with the subjects of geomorphology , infrared remote sensing, laboratory spectroscopy .

His scientific interests and specialties are geology , GIS / remote sensing and hydrology .

William Stefanov trains the astronauts at the International Space Station in geosciences and carries out scientific projects in the field of remote sensing . His research includes the use, evaluation and further development of satellite recordings and especially camera recordings from the ISS in the range of visible light and in the microwave range . The subject areas include urban systems, natural disasters, climatology and ecology . He is also involved in the technical monitoring of the space shuttle in space as a member of the Integrated Analysis Team. It goes z. B. to examine the surface of the shuttle in space for damage.
