William Lloyd George, 3rd Viscount Tenby

William Lloyd George, 3rd Viscount Tenby (born November 7, 1927 ) is a British economic manager and politician who was a member of the House of Lords from 1983 to 2015 and has been one of the 92 hereditary peers since the House of Lords Act 1999 came into force ( Hereditary Peer ).

Life

Family, studies and professional activities

Lloyd George comes from the Lloyd George family of politicians. His grandfather David Lloyd George was Prime Minister from 1916 to 1922 , while his father Gwilym Lloyd George, 1st Viscount Tenby, was Minister several times. His cousin Owen Lloyd George, 3rd Earl Lloyd-George of Dwyfor was also a member of the House of Lords until the House of Lords Act 1999 came into force.

After visiting the Eastbourne College Lloyd George studied history at St Catharine's College of the University of Cambridge and graduated in 1949 with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) from. In addition, he did his military service with the Royal Welch Fusiliers , where he was promoted to captain . He then worked from 1951 to 1954 as a publishing assistant at Herbert Jenkins Ltd and then until 1957 as an employee in the advertising department of Associated Newspapers . This was followed by a position as senior advertising manager at UDC Finance Limited from 1957 to 1974 , before he was consultant for public relations for the chairman of the board of the private bank Kleinwort Benson between 1974 and 1987 . He was also 1971 to 1997 magistrate ( Justice of Peace ) in the County of Hampshire .

Member of the House of Lords

After his older brother David Lloyd George, 2nd Viscount Tenby, died in 1983, he inherited the title of Viscount Tenby and thus membership in the House of Lords for lack of descendants from his brother . With the entry into force of the House of Lords Act 1999 he was one of the upper house members who were elected from the circle of hereditary peers , who were elected as their representatives to members of the upper house. In Oberhausen he is one of the so-called Crossbenchers , the non-party members of the House of Lords.

Viscount Tenby, who was a member of the Hampshire Police Council between 1985 and 1994, is involved in a number of other organizations such as arbitrator for the British Acupuncture Association, as president of the Riding for the Disabled in Hants and Rushmoor as well as as chairman of the Byways trustees . Furthermore, he was 1985-1993 advisor to Williams Lea , a company in the field of business process outsourcing , as well as 1985-2001 president of the Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE).

On May 1, 2015, he voluntarily retired under the rules of the House of Lords Reform Act 2014 and left the House of Lords.
