William Sigei

William Cheruiyot Sigei (born October 11, 1969 in Chebeing'o Village , Kapsimotwo , Bomet County , Rift Valley Province ) is a retired Kenyan long-distance runner .

After finishing eighth at the 1992 World Cross Country Championships in Boston , Sigei became world cross country champion in 1993 and 1994 . In 1993 in Amorebieta (Spain), Kenya took the top five places. When he defended his title in 1994, the route in Budapest led along the banks of the Danube. Temperatures of below zero degrees were extremely unusual for the Kenyan.

After being at the 1993 World Championships in Athletics only tenth in the 10,000-meter race had become (28: 54.39 minutes), followed by a career peak in the summer of 1994 the world record : On July 22, 1994 Sigei ran at the Bislett Games in Oslo , the 10,000 meters in 26: 52.23 min.
