William Theodore Cardinal Heard (born February 24, 1884 in Edinburgh , Scotland , † September 16, 1973 in Rome ) was a Curia Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church .

Life

William Theodore Heard completed his studies in Oxford and Rome with doctorates in Catholic theology and canon law . He was a seminarian at the Pontifical English College in Rome and received in 1918 received the sacrament of Holy Orders . He became a parish priest in the Diocese of Southwark in 1921 after further studies . In 1927 he was appointed auditor of the Roman Rota . As a confessor , he also looked after the students at the English college in Rome.

In 1958 William Theodore Heard became dean of the Rota Romana , a year later Pope John XXIII took him on . as cardinal deacon with the title deacon of San Teodoro in the college of cardinals . On April 5, 1962, William Theodore Heard was appointed by Pope John XXIII. appointed titular archbishop pro hac vice by Feradi Maius and received episcopal ordination from him ; Co-consecrators were the cardinals Giuseppe Pizzardo and Benedetto Aloisi Masella . Cardinal Heard attended the Second Vatican Council from 1962 to 1965 . He was a participant in the conclave in 1963 , in which Pope Paul VI. was chosen. On May 18, 1970, he was raised to cardinal priest pro hac vice while retaining his title diakonia .

He died on September 16, 1973 in Rome and was in the chapel of the English College at the cemetery Campo Verano buried.
